UFC 105 Preview: Brandon Vera Is The Underdog On UFC Website
You guys probably remember me doing this for UFC 104: Rua vs. Machida where Rua was the heavy underdog. Well, according to the poll at UFC.com, Brandon Vera is a sizable underdog going up against Randy Couture at UFC 105.

So do you all think this percentage is fairly accurate? If not, how do you like Vera's chances going into this fight?

^ this, realistically. however...
i reckon if a game, in shape Vera shows up he could wreck couture with his muay thai! its highly unlikely but Randy’s getting older, his chin can only take so much and if Vera gets a nice plum hold on his head and fires off knees, goodnight Randy
very long shot though, i hope it comes off though! i’d love to see Vera as a real force at 205!

current line: Vera +110 Couture -110
I personally think vera should be around -150 or higher, but that’s just me.

There’s too many X-factors involved for me to say what the appropriate line should be (the only thing I can safely say is that I don’t think there should be a huge gap).
If Vera isn’t as passive as he was in his last fight and comes to the fight in great cardivascular shape then he has a great chance of winning this – I simply don’t know where he is at mentally though and I usually stay away from those fights where ‘state of mind’ is a big factor to analyze.
Bloody hell.
good point
he has spoken at length about how he sees Randy (like most fighters do) as a hero, it will be very interesting to see how he mentally handles that challenge of fighting a hero. will he engage and welcome it or will he shrink and be beat on…cant wait to see :D

cool, hadn't realised that!
bq.Couture is fighting at 205 for the first time in 3 years, is 46 and aging everyday
i know randy is an exempelary professional but at that age might the weight cut adversely affect him fight night, probably not but its an outside possibility i feel

This is all about if age has caught up with the ageless wonder and if Vera can FINALLY realize his potential.
Bloody hell.
Yo
I think Vera realizes how big of an opportunity this is….I think he’s going to get past Couture….if not, then he needs to fall back like DST.

if vera fights like he did against jardine or even against kystoff, then randy should take it, but like RNP mentioned, there is going to come THAT DAY where randy finally shows his age. it kinda looked that way against big nog, but that might be taking away from nog’s performance. vera defintley needs to establish himself fast in this fight and not try “experimenting”. i thought after the patt fight, vera was ready to explode, but it didn’t happen. patt was a set-up fight for him. this is a very interesting fight and should be very entertaning at least.
Yo
I don’t know why…I mean Couture is capable of winning this fight…but I’m having visions of Vera beating him from the clinch….

True
Don’t forget that Vera’s wrestling is no joke even though he rarely uses it…

He kinda does because Greco (or parts of it at leas) is suprisingly easy to translate to Muay Thai…
Bloody hell.
Yea
I’m just referring to the take down portion of it.

Yeah I was deliberately making a stretch :)
I have a hard time seeing Vera taking Couture down — if Lesnar barely could then I don’t know if there’s anyone currently employed by the UFC that could either, granted Lesnar relies on the double leg so there’s a difference there.
Bloody hell.
amen
