Is Brock Lesnar a Heel?
Recentley MMa Payout stated that UFC 106 Lesnar/Carwin could possibly do a million ppv buys. Possibly 1.5. maybe more.
A fan on another site brought it to my attention that Brock losing to Carwin at UFC 106 could be "good business" for the UFC. I strongly disagreed. I feel that Brock has this aura of invincibility, kinda like Fedor, right now, that a loss would severely hurt his popularity and his marketability.
A few other hardcore fans strongly disagreed with me, stating that Brock is a big enough of a Heel, that he would draw the same #s because, just as many people or MORE pay to see Brock lose than pay to watch him win.
I find this notion to be prepostorous. I realize that Brock has his share of detractors, and that he was booed in his last fight with Frank Mir in Vegas(Mir's hometown) after he flipped off the crowd. But Las Vegas does not make up the rest of the country's opinion or the rest of the world for that matter.
I happen to think Brock is more liked as a fighter than despised, and find it hard to believe that he could pull in a million+ ppv buys just because fans dislike him so much. But i have been wrong before, so i decided to make this into a FanPost on MMAFORREAL because i am a bit of a regular here, and i know no one will agree with me just to kiss my ass or not piss me off. I also know that the fans here won't disagree with me just for a long drawn out debate or for some kind of personal vendetta. Fans of this site tend to keep it real. so what say thee? is brock a Heel or a fan favourite?

BDW...thanks for making a fanpost man
Brock Lesnar decides if he’s the heel or not on how he promotes whatever fight he’s in…against Couture, he was pretty respectful and I think most fans saw him pretty neutral even though he was going up against the beloved Couture.
However, against Frank Mir he decided to add some spice and trash talk a bit as Mir basically provoked him as well…
I think Lesnar’s appeal right now is that he appears to be unstoppable…so him losing isn’t good for business IMO…however, if he lost(depending on how he lost) it wouldn’t be the end of the world..I’m sure the UFC could put him in the right fights to get his hype train rolling again… The guy is always going to pull incredible PPV numbers IMO…
I’l add a poll.

thanks K-dog-for the poll
thats the way i see it. how/if he loses to carwin would make a difference. if he gets koed in round 1, it wont look so good. if it’s a hard fought 5 rounder, he’ll be ok. i also cant imagine 106 doing a million+ buys, brock loses, and then his next event is just as big or bigger. your also right about how he portays himself, is how fans will feel about him. 1 fan (a knowledgable one) kept comparing guys like chuck and randy losing and still doing well. those guys have been around for a long time and have a built-in hardcore fanbase, so that comparison didn’t make sense. if brock were to go undefeated for 2-3 years with 5-6 wins, he could easily afford a loss. he did lose to mir already, but that was only his 2nd fight against a former champ and it wss very contrversial, due to the mazagotti incident. Brock is the biggest draw in mma right now, and i find it a bit hard to believe that it is because more fans want to see him lose than to win. :)
No problem son
I do think more people want to see him lose than win though…just because most people think his size is his biggest asset.

do you think it’s like that for the casual fans as well, not just the interenet fans. i could be off on this one.
Well
I don’t talk to many casual fans, so my experience is limited. However, I watched UFC 100 at a nearby Hooter’s and the people I talked to would be classified as casual fans by my standard. I talked to about 15 people that night…and all of them wanted Mir to win…

Whatever he is he is polarizing – a you-either-love-him-or-hate-him scenario… a lot of fans were seriously sceptical when he came in to the UFC, the gay cowboy routine vs. Heath didn’t help and the whole getting in Mir’s mauled face/flipping off the crowd/talking about getting on top of things (lol) stunt at UFC 100 cemented him as a villain – every forum-styled MMA site has people saying they’ll cheer for ANYONE fighting Brock, which is kind of why I personally like him… I can also relate to a bunch of things:
- being a terrible loser
- being a dude who stays quiet for the most part but ironically has a knack for showmanship
- his interest for hunting/wildlife
- his work ethic (when he said he was going in for MMA a 100 % he wasn’t lying…)
Bloody hell.
I may be a minority on this one
But I don’t blame Lesnar at all for his outburst at UFC 100. Mir was talking some major shit, and not your run of the mill I’m going to pound your face in shit talking. It was, you’re too stupid to beat me kind of shit talking. It made me HATE Frank Mir. I may have been 1 of 5 people rooting for Lesnar at 100 but I think Mir got everything he deserved. And I actually think Mir said something to Lesnar before he (Lesnar) got in his face… I have to watch the video again.
WAR LESNAR!!!
I'm the kind of girl who loves to watch a GOOD fight!

and nobody went apeshit when thiago silva stood over an unconcious kieth jardine and pointed his finger in his face. i guess there is alot of people who “love to hate” brock, and want him to lose, much like money maywether. but once that loss comes, it’s hard for me to believe that either fighter will be a big a draw as before they lost. there’s no more suspense, and yes i know brock has already lost once, but the circumstances were different..
bdw
that’s exactly some of the bias I was talking about…..lol…in regards to Silva/Jardine…if that were Lesnar it would have been blown out of proportion.
