Demian Maia Looking To Return In December

UFC Middleweight Demian Maia (10-1)

Demian Maia speaks to Tatame about what's on the horizon:

"I still don’t know… I’m trying to be back in December or January… I wanted to fight in December, let’s see", said the former middleweight contender, with no opponent in mind. "I have no idea of who they can put against me".

Demian Maia is coming off a devastating KO loss to Nate Marquardt at UFC 102.  He's right though in that I can't think of anyone in particular for him to fight either as it seems everyone worthy is booked up.  Let's take a look:

-Wanderlei Silva is out until early next year after facial surgery.

-Denis Kang and Michael Bisping are fighting at UFC 105.

-Ricardo Almeida is a welterweight now.

-Rousimar Palhares has an opponent.

-Jorge Rivera and Yushin Okami are fighting at UFC 104

-Wilson Gouveia and Alan Belcher are fighting at UFC 107

Ahhhh!  What about Yoshiro Akiyama?  He's coming off a win against Alan Belcher at UFC 100.

I don't like Akiyama at MW...

he’s just too small compared to the other guys.

Maybe Maia could fight Cote, he should be about ready to return from his injury.

Some people are like Slinkies... not really good for anything, but you still can't
help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

Both have pretty dynamic Jits and I predict they’d transition alot, much like Jason MacDonald and Maia did (one of the best rounds of MMA ever IMO)

I DON’T think it would be like Werdum/Gonzaga.

Bloody hell.

Maybe.. or it could be like when two really good JJ/wrestlers fight, and they spend the whole time on sloppy striking.

Neither have shown that kínd of takedown defense since both fight on the premise that they WANT TO go to the ground.

Bloody hell.

maia certainly wants to get back in the octogan b/c the taste of defeat

is a bitter pill to swallow. it was a bad loss to nate m. i would want to fight as soon as possible too.

I like the heart shon by Maia. Not letting the loss keep him down. Get right back out there.

Goran Reljic

if he can get and stay healthy. he was supposed move down to fight leites at MW, but got hurt and i haven’t heard much about him since. maybe not the right opponent for maia, considering he’s been out for about a year, but i can’t wait to see him back in the octagon. would love to see maia move down to ww and see how he does at that weight class. he seems small for todays MW’s.
