WEC Adding A Flyweight Division

WEC_LogoOnBlack.jpg

The WEC is planning on expanding by adding a 125 pound flyweight division. A move that undoubtedly will serve a couple of purposes.

1. A new division will help the WEC further legitimize its claim as the preeminent promotion for lightweight fighters.

2. With the debunking of the WEC MW and LHW divisions, a new flyweight division will help in filling up future cards that the WEC plans to put on.

I'm pretty happy to see this happen. I don't keep up with many of the fighters that fight below 145, simply because most of them fight in foreign countries. However, one thing is for sure in that the majority of these flyweight fights will be very fast paced and entertaining.

Honestly, I’m not familiar even with any flyweight fighters. Hopefully they will be able to stack a division with some good talent. I also hope it doesn’t look like a bunch of little kids fighting.

LOL@ the little kids comment..although there is some truth in that.

MMA, in general, should be a little weary of having these weight divisions…

and personally i just like when people go down, i’m generally a MW and upwards type of guy haha

3PA, I feel you…although most HW fights suck IMO.

3PA: I think that as long as MMA keeps the prefixes ‘Super’ and ‘Junior’ out of the weight classes, they wil be ok.

Kelvin; yeah HW bouts often suck from a technical standpoint – to me there’s still the allure of seeing two monsters clubbing each other into oblivion lol

Felix, you’re right – i just worry because the UFC has, IMO, the perfect # of weight divisions (my reasoning is that every single champion is recognizable and have intriuging marketable fights available to them)… then again i think it’s pretty genius of zuffa to use the WEC to promote lighter weight classes, now urijah just needs to get his title back so they can promote the shit out of him
