Should Rampage Jackson Be Allowed To Fight At UFC 91?

Rampage Jackson could fight again at UFC 91 when the UFC travels to Portland, Oregon. That's the scoop according to Yahoo Sports:

Though there has been much speculation that Jackson would fight Wanderlei Silva, White declined to comment. But a source close to the situation said a Jackson-Silva fight is unlikely. Silva has two wins over Jackson from their days together in the PRIDE Fighting Championship.

But Jackson will fight, likely on the Nov. 15 card in Portland, Ore., and the charges won’t impede him
My only question is...should Rampage be allowed to fight so soon? I've spoken with a few people and I'm getting mixed results on the situation. Personally, I think the following bits of information need to be taken into consideration.

  • Rampage was charged with 2 felonies and misdemeanor charges as well

  • Even though he was suffering from delirium, that was self inflicted by Rampage

  • Can he find proper training partner's and management since he split with Juanito Ibarra?

Chime in with your thoughts in either support of him fighting in November, or provide your reasons why he shouldn't be allowed to do so.

UPDATE: Rampage has signed with Wolfslair of the UK...also training home of Michael Bisbing.

Personally I think what Rampage did was pretty irresposible and whatever punishment he gets he deserves. I’m not perfect, but all the mistakes I did when I was a teen I owned up to and payed the piper for them. Regardless of celebrity, Rampage should be shown the same regard by the Orange County D.A. that he showed to the people who’s life he endangered that day-none. With that being said I dont think its a question of should he be allowed to fight. Thats totaly a call for Joe Silva and Dana to make. The real question is weather or not he will be ready to fight. In my opinion he has too much going on and I dont see him being able to pull of a win against any of the LHW top fighters. Mentally he wouldn’t be 100% while in training or in the ring. Nobody with that much going on outside of the ring would be able to fully prepare for and concentrate on a fight. It would only piss off Rampage fans because they would buy a ticket or PPV just to see a Rampage thats not 100% lose worse than he did to Forrest, meaning it would be more unquestionable and notable. Thats just my opinion.

I am on the fence with this one.

I hate to see a person deprived of their way to make a living but when you make your living in the realm of sports entertainment then you have to be held to some kind of standards I believe.

If the UFC weren’t a privately owned company then I think there might be a little more scrutiny on this from share holders.

I guess I’m leaning towards I’m O.k. with him fighting but I could be swayed the other way by a good argument. I have just been all over on my opinion of this whole situation though.

Since I know someone that’s had something similar that Rampage faced happen to them, I’m a little more sensitive to something like this. In fact, it was my wife. Although it happened before I met her, she had a similar breakdown and you really do not realize what you’re doing until after the fact. None of us know what exactly set Rampage off, all we know is some of it had to do with his lose but even then, that could have set off something that was going on in his personal life at the same time. So for us to play judge and jury on someone when we know only what police reports will let be known and what TMZ can conjure up I think that’s unfair. With that said, most likely he won’t do any jail time and he’ll have to shell out some money. So, why keep him from doing what he does to make money, even if it is a contact sport, let the man do his job. One thing I wouldn’t do is rush into something if he thought he wasn’t ready, that’s Joe Silva and Dana’s job too though. I see no problems with it and think we should just see him as he is and not try to delve into his legal problems when we probably know 10-15% of the total story.

Charles, good point…the only thing with that is…Rampage basically caused the delirium himself by not eating and not sleeping…so he’s responsible for it to a degree at least.

I think by him fighting he will have a built in excuse if he happens to lose. Two and a half months to find a new training environment, clear his head just seems a little rushed to me. I think he should chill and relax, get this mind straight, legal troubles behind him before returning to the cage.

Its probably a good thing that he’s training with Bisping and co in England. A fresh start at a new training camp will allow him to work with a clear mind.

But, I still don’t think he should be fighting Rua so soon. If he ends up losing that fight, it could send his already fragile mind into a downward spiral which could devastate him completely.

Why can’t he disappear for a while, go on a vacation and come back in the new year? That seems like the most logical approach to me.

He said in the lost aagainst Forrest that he felt staying inactive for 9 months was a factor, so I’m guesseing he doesn’t want to go that long with out a fight again. As for training with Bisping in the UK, it may be a little hard to get a visa being that he is facing felonie charges. Even if he does get a visa, I dont see how training with Wolfslair is a step up. In my opinion, the only reason he wants to train there is because nobody else in the LHW division trains there or maybe because of his present situation nobody wants him affiliated with their camp.

Honestly…..and I’m been a fan and supporter of Rampage since I watched my first bout…..but I kind of think he needs to fall back for a while. If there are in fact personal issues that contributed to his recent troubles, then I would love to see the brotha work through those and get his life back on track first.

Granted, sometimes, doing what you love to do is just the thing needed to get your focus and work things out.

I’m not worried about dude in the ring, his legacy or any of that shit as a result of his recent troubles, but from an impersonal, fan standpoint, yes, I do wish dude all the best in working out any personal issues.
